Red Boost at a Glance

Red Boost is a $69 powder sold for firmer erections and blood flow. One scoop a day contains L-citrulline, horny goat weed, maca, tongkat ali, nettle root and a fruit and beetroot blend, with most amounts on the label. Each is well below the doses that helped in trials, and the powder itself is untested.

  • Price: $39 to $69 per jar, depending on the package
  • Refund window: 180-day money-back guarantee
  • Our score: 3.4/5 (Mixed) · how we scored it

What Red Boost is

Red Boost is a powder sold to men for firmer erections, desire and blood flow. It is sold at hardwoodtonic.com, with ClickBank as the retailer, and the jar is labelled “Blood Flow Support”. The directions are one scoop a day, about 4.1 g, mixed into a drink, and a jar holds 30 scoops, so it lasts a month. The seller says it is made in the USA in an FDA-registered facility that follows GMP guidelines; that means the factory is registered with the FDA, not that the FDA has approved the product.

The seller’s page for affiliates also offers a version of its sales video aimed at women, but the product and its claims are about male sexual performance.

The sales pitch

The sales page says the “newly discovered root cause” of erection problems is oxidative stress in the smooth muscle, which it describes as tiny fibres on the pelvic floor. Part of this is real: an erection depends on smooth muscle inside the penis and its blood vessels relaxing, through a chemical signal called nitric oxide, and this pathway has been understood for decades. It is the same pathway that prescription erection medicines act on. The smooth muscle involved is inside the erectile tissue, though, not the pelvic floor.

The page goes further than erections. It says Red Boost leads to easier weight loss, sharper recall, healthy blood sugar, blood pressure and immune support, and that it “works for almost everyone”. No study of the powder supports any of these.

What is in it

The Supplement Facts label on the sales page lists, per scoop:

IngredientAmount
Vitamin C300 mg (333% DV)
Blend of beetroot, cherry, lemon juice, acerola and blackberry powders1,500 mg in total
Horny goat weed extract (Epimedium sagittatum)500 mg
L-citrulline DL-malate 1:1500 mg
Maca root powder300 mg
Stinging nettle root extract150 mg
Tongkat ali extract “100:1”100 mg
Nine-strain probiotic blend100 mg

The other ingredients are natural flavours, stevia and cassia cinnamon. Compared with most products in this category, that is an unusually clear label. Three gaps remain: the amounts inside the fruit and beetroot blend, how much icariin the horny goat weed extract contains (the sales page calls the ingredient “icariin”), and the probiotic count. Citrulline DL-malate is half citrulline, so a scoop holds about 250 mg of citrulline.

One scoop against the doses in the studies

IngredientAmount used in trialsRed Boost, per scoop
L-citrulline1.5 g a day for a monthAbout 250 mg
Maca1.5 to 3 g a day, or 2.4 g of extract300 mg
Tongkat aliTypically 200 to 400 mg of a standardised extract a day100 mg
Horny goat weedNo good human trials500 mg, icariin not stated
BeetrootAbout 310 to 560 mg of nitrate, usually as juiceA share of a 1,500 mg fruit blend

The “100:1” on the tongkat ali describes how much root went into the extract, not how much active compound it contains, so it cannot be compared directly with the standardised extracts used in trials.

What the research actually supports

  • L-citrulline: the University of Foggia study the sales page mentions gave 24 men with mild erectile dysfunction 1.5 g a day for a month. Erection hardness improved by one grade in 12 of them (50%) on citrulline, against 2 (8.3%) on placebo. It was small, single-blind and short, and Red Boost holds about a sixth of that dose.
  • Tongkat ali: a 2015 meta-analysis of two trials (139 men) found no significant overall improvement in erectile function, with a benefit only in men who started with lower scores. A 2022 meta-analysis found that it raises total testosterone, mainly in men with low levels.
  • Maca: in a trial of 50 men with mild erectile dysfunction, 2.4 g a day of maca extract for 12 weeks raised erection scores by 1.6 points, against 0.5 on placebo: a small effect. Another trial found 1.5 or 3 g a day improved sexual desire after eight weeks without changing testosterone.
  • Horny goat weed: its compound icariin acts on the same enzyme as erection medicines in lab and animal studies, but there are no good-quality human trials for erections or libido.
  • Stinging nettle root: studied for urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate, with mixed results; there is no research on erections.
  • Beetroot: its nitrate can lower blood pressure slightly, mostly in juice trials. A share of a 1,500 mg blend with four fruit powders is unlikely to supply much nitrate.

The sales page’s reference list has 18 entries. Several are animal or laboratory studies, two are about the side effects of sildenafil, and others cover fenugreek and a saw palmetto and nettle product, neither of which is in the current formula. None tests Red Boost.

Side effects and who should be careful

  • Blood pressure and heart medicines: citrulline and beetroot can lower blood pressure. Ask your doctor first if you take blood pressure medicines, nitrates for chest pain, or erection medicines such as sildenafil or tadalafil.
  • Heart disease: horny goat weed has been linked to a fast, irregular heartbeat in a man with heart failure, so people with heart disease should avoid it.
  • Hormone-sensitive conditions: tongkat ali can raise testosterone, and maca extracts showed oestrogen-like activity in the lab, so check with your doctor if you have, or have had, prostate cancer or another hormone-sensitive condition.
  • Other medicines: nettle root may add to the effect of blood pressure, diabetes and blood-thinning medicines.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: the ingredients have not been studied for safety, so it is not suitable.

See a doctor first

Erection problems are common, and they are worth a doctor’s visit for two reasons. They can be an early warning sign of heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes, sometimes years before other symptoms. And there are treatments with real evidence: tablets such as sildenafil and tadalafil, now available as inexpensive generics, help most men, and losing weight, exercising and stopping smoking improve erections too. Our erectile dysfunction guide explains what the research shows for supplements.

Price and which package makes sense

One jar costs $69 plus shipping. Three jars cost $177 ($59 each) and six cost $234 ($39 each). The order section shows “+ shipping” under three jars, while the FAQ says shipping is free on three or six, so check the total at checkout. The crossed-out prices of $297, $891 and $1,782, and the “You save $1,548”, are reference prices nobody pays. It is a one-time payment with no subscription, and the seller tells affiliates the offer has upsells, so expect further offers after checkout; you can decline them.

With doses this far below the trials, one jar is the sensible way to try it; the 180-day refund covers a single jar too. Six jars are the cheapest per jar, but that is half a year of a formula that has not been tested. Our Red Boost buying guide covers where it is sold and shipping.

How the 180-day refund works

You have 180 days from the date your order ships. Email the seller’s support address with “Refund Request” in the subject and wait for an agent to confirm, then send back all your jars, empty and unopened, to the returns address in Tallmadge, Ohio, with a note giving your name, order number and email. You pay the return postage, and the seller asks you to email the tracking number. Refunds usually appear 5–10 days after the return is registered. Keep your empty jars until you are sure.

The sales page

The page loses marks for pressure and overreach: a “limited time offer” while “stock lasts”, crossed-out reference prices, the claim that “millions of men” are enjoying the results, and benefits for weight, memory and blood sugar that have nothing behind them. The seller’s page for affiliates suggests pitching Red Boost to people with diabetes or high blood pressure, the very groups who most need a doctor’s advice about erection problems. On the plus side, the label is shown, the prices are clear, and the guarantee is long.

Realistic expectations

At the amounts in a scoop, Red Boost is unlikely to make a noticeable difference to erections. Its best-studied ingredients, citrulline and maca, showed small effects at doses several times higher, and the product itself has never been tested. If you try it, give it a fair chance within the refund window, but start with a doctor’s visit: it may find a treatable cause, and the medicines with real evidence are inexpensive.

🧪 Key Ingredients

What is in the formula, with a short note on each ingredient:

🌿 Beetroot Powder

Beetroot powder is a dried, ground form of the beet (Beta vulgaris), used mainly as a source of dietary nitrate, although nitrate levels vary widely between products. It is used to raise nitric oxide levels, with modest evidence, mostly from beetroot juice, for lower blood pressure and better endurance.

🌿 Epimedium

Epimedium, widely known as horny goat weed, is an herb used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine as a tonic, aphrodisiac and remedy for joint complaints. Its main active compound, icariin, affects blood-vessel and hormone pathways in lab and animal studies, but human evidence is limited.

🌿 Lactobacillus Fermentum

Lactobacillus Fermentum is a resilient probiotic bacterium naturally found in fermented foods and the human microbiome. It is widely recognized for its ability to enhance immune function, lower cholesterol, and provide potent antioxidant support.

🌿 Lactobacillus Reuteri

Lactobacillus reuteri (now officially named Limosilactobacillus reuteri) is a probiotic bacterium that produces an antimicrobial substance called reuterin. Its effects depend on the strain: the best evidence is for DSM 17938 in colicky breastfed babies, with smaller studies in gum disease and H. pylori treatment.

🌿 Lactobacillus Rhamnosus

Lactobacillus rhamnosus is a probiotic bacterial species, best known for the GG strain, whose effects in clinical trials depend on the strain and the condition studied. It is one of the most widely researched bacteria for supporting digestive health, immune function, and vaginal balance.

🌿 Maca Root

Maca root is a plant from the Peruvian Andes that is traditionally used for stamina and libido, and small human studies have looked at its effect on sexual desire. It is a cruciferous vegetable that has been used for centuries as a food and traditional remedy.

🌿 Stinging Nettle Root

Stinging nettle root is an herbal extract from the Urtica dioica plant, used mainly for urinary symptoms of an enlarged prostate. Some trials suggest modest relief of BPH symptoms, while its hormone effects come mainly from lab studies.

🌿 L-Citrulline DL-Malate

500 mg, about 250 mg of citrulline. Improved erection hardness in a small trial at 1.5 g a day.

🌿 Horny Goat Weed (Epimedium)

500 mg of extract. Its icariin acts on erection pathways in lab studies; there are no good human trials.

🌿 Tongkat Ali

100 mg of a “100:1” extract. Raised testosterone in trials; its effect on erections is unclear.

🌿 Vitamin C

300 mg, 333% of the daily value.

🌿 Probiotic Blend

100 mg of nine Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium strains, with no CFU count.

*Always consult with your physician before starting any new supplement.

Buying experience · 15% of score 2.0/5

How the product is sold: sales channel, checkout upsells, subscription defaults and how clearly the offer is presented.

Why these scores

Transparency is good for the category: the label gives an amount for every main ingredient, losing marks only for a 1,500 mg fruit and beetroot blend, an unstated icariin content and a probiotic with no count. Evidence is weak: every key ingredient is well below the amounts used in trials, horny goat weed has no good human trials, and the powder itself is untested. Practices lose marks for crossed-out reference prices, "limited time" and stock pressure, broad health claims, a reference list that includes ingredients the formula does not contain, upsells, and a refund that requires returning every jar at your own cost.

Final Verdict

Red Boost is more open than most erection supplements: the label gives an amount for nearly every ingredient. That openness is also what shows the problem. A scoop holds about a sixth of the citrulline and a fifth or less of the maca that helped in small trials, horny goat weed has no good human evidence, and the powder has never been tested. If you want to try it, start with one jar and keep the 180-day refund in mind, but see a doctor about erection problems first: they can be an early sign of heart disease or diabetes, and tested medicines work for most men.
